After installed your new release Freichat 5.0 with all the prerequisites found into your readme.txt, I find none result on my screen (with chrome, and firefox): nothing about Freichat on the screen of my site !
I found none problem during the installation.

ps: first, I have deleted all about the previous version.

Can you give me the website url , where freichatx 5.0 is installed.

Also can you enable PHP debug in freichatx backend(administration)
and post the output in freix.log in ~freichat folder here.

3. I have modified the "php debugging" & "js debugging" into "yes" in the "additional parameters" in mode Administrator, and then clicked on the "submit" button. And I have tested my site, ... and quited it. Finally, I doesn't find a such file named "freix.log" under the folder "freichat" !

arg.php, config.dat, config.php, contributions.txt, define;php freelicense.pdf, index.php, readme.txt, to_do_list.txt

The freichat folder may not have permissions to create files .
So you are unable to see the file.

Give freichat folder the required permissions an try .

Also do you use chrome or firefox , may be we can debug with the browsers.
If you use chrome see in the console , for erros .
and if firefox , download the firebug addon and check in the console for
any erros .

I think you should try the manual installation instead of installing with the modules.
If above does not work reinstall freichatx with manual installation.

On seeing three posts about FreiChatX not working in Joomla 1.6

I tried installing FreiChatX in Joomla 1.6 more than 5-6 times.

All were successful. I was only stuck for a moment while publishing the module.
[Positioning the module.]

So i think you are making the same mistake.

In module manager -> mod_freichatx

Make sure module is published ,

then the position was a tricky part for me , because most of the positions
weren't working .
Then position-0 worked for me in the end.

So see, your login form is in which postition and assign the same to freichat

Also make sure menu assignment is in all pages.

If the above do not work i will get a bit more idea of the problem.
Please tell me the result.

I assure you I have tried ALL the possible positions of my template, and of course the same position as my login form module: NO RESULT !
But, don't forget I use on my site CB 1.4: so, my login form module isn't the main login form of Joomla 1.6 but the special CB login form module. What do you think about my remark ?
An other remark: I have tried -just a try- to install the JFBChat extension, and the results on my site are: right mini windows for chat on the screens, but none users on line indicated into the chat windows !!! I think this note is essential for you understanding of my own problem.

1. I have tried your idea: replace in the template the code php by the new one (placed in your post). Ok, but there are many blocks of code php in my template (I use the standard template which arrives with the pack of Joomla 1.6, i.e Beez20.

There is one error which is not related to FreiChatX .

Hello, I just downloaded your AWESOME chat program. I read the "read me file" and it seems to me that they are instructions for a manual installation. I am what you would call a novice at this stuff; is there a way to automatically install Freichat through a module or plugin install through Joomla? I'm kind of lost, I apologize if the answer to my question seems obvious, or should be common sense, but I'm clueless at this moment, and the instructions seem complicated. I appreciate and thank you in advance for any support and assistance that you can provide me with.

1. Uncompress the archive ,
then copy paste it inside the folder where Joomla is installed.

2. After that you should go to http://your_site_url/Joomla_installed_folder/freichat/installation

3. Accept the license , choose driver as Joomla and keep pressing next .
If you are installaing the latest version of FreiChatX, the there is modular installation
at the last step. Here you have to download a module and install it like
Joomla module (through backend)

When I use the quote character in a message of chat (very useful in french language), the member receives 2 characters.
Example:
1. I write: Demain, c'est Dimanche !
2. The member receives: Demain, c\'est Dimanche !

Do you know how to correct that mini-problem ?

Anyway the below should solve your problem .
And in any case this small bug would be solved in the next release (5.2)

You only have to remove one line .

In ~/freichat/server/freichat.php , Around line 441 , you will find the line

$message=str_replace("'","\'",$message);

The little problem -character "'" transformed into "\'"- is well solved by your solution.
