How can I set how long the residual chats stay in the chat room? I cannot find a parameter for that. Is there a timeout at some time? like 12 hours, or 24 hours? it would be difficult if too much data got in there.
maybe a button for a superuser to 'dump history' for the chatroom, like you can for your chat...
is that possible?

go to the backend,
go to server side parameters-> Save Message History For
change the time there

I am talking about the CHAT ROOM, not the messaging/private chat box.

I had set (and saved) it for 10 minutes, and the chat is STILL THERE... and this is with a TON of refreshes... (doing theme work)...

I need to get rid of what is in the CHAT ROOM(s)!!!! How do I dump it?

I mean... It has been over an hour now since setting it for 10 mins.... and the chat from 18 hours ago are still there... and this was when the chat save was set for only 10 hours. so this totally does not make sense.....

go to phpmyadmin, select your database and run the following query,

DELETE FROM frei_chat;

Well that's all fine and good, but I would like to not have to go into phpmyadmin every three hours to have to dump the database.... So far it stayed in now for 24 hours (plus) and the cat history is still here in the chatrooms....
Are you saying that the chatrooms KEEP ALL HISTORY until one has to manually dump it?

maybe an alternative is that I can make a script performing that action (which works, BTW... thnx!) and then I can get a cron job to run it every 12 hours, or midnight, or whatever....
also maybe make a button that runs the script whenever I want to from the site itself only accessible by a super-user (joomla)... hmmmmmmmmmm
