Testing oEmbed!!

Congratulations. But, for rich media like video, audio and pictures there should be a thumbnail and not the whole media. Imagine a topic with every post with a lot of videos, or photos. It will take forever to load. That's why facebook or other websites show only a thumbnail, and on click the media will open.

Yes, you are correct and we have already thought about that .

We will add the thumnail feature in the future releases .

This is not the same as onebox that is using Discourse, or is it?! https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-is-a-onebox/4546
Because onebox can embed content from websites too and not only media. And this is very useful.

I can see it right now in this topic. There are only 2 media and this topic is not loading very smoothly.

@luxlogica some of the popular ones such a youtube provide screenshots of the video.
what we are thinking of is to just load the screenshot, the iframe will load only when the screenshot is clicked.

@itlo

yeah Discourse uses opengraph, CF supports it, but is currently disabled because we are currently thinking of a way to exclude unnecessary content that opengraph query returns.
for example, an opengraph request to wikipedia will load the content of the entire page, we are currently working on how to limit and filter in the most important content.

Great. This is the way to go.

Every modern platform works this way these days. They load fast and easy, and this can't be done with the stream loaded full of media. That's why every media (video, photo, audio ect) should be as thumbnails on the stream.
Example https://www.linkedin.com/channels/entrepreneurship

See above link is picture but as it not ends with picture extension so codo can't turns it into picture, but if you put in IMG BB Code then it will work

Hi adesh and avinash... I'm asking to myself if you have done this function oEmbed!!!
It's a really good thing to have this possibility on forum...

Another question is if there is the possibility to link a pdf file and view it on topic, like an image, without clikking over and open it in the same page

Have you thought about using http://embed.ly/ as an oembed provider? Their cards layout is a great idea for standardising the presentation of oembed content. If it were a plugin, you could get each installation to insert their own api key in a settings page.

Embedly looks very cool. Dear devs, pls take this suggestion in consideration. Cheers.

Hi,

We wanted to use embedly, but their service is not completely free.

Hello,

Sorry to bump this thread but:

We will add the thumnail feature in the future releases .

I've seen in the roadmap:

Codoforum v.2.4

[release date: 14-October-2014]

  • Oembed img .jpg?x=y do not work since they do not end with ext [fixed]
  • Added oembed thumbnails
  • Improved oembed caching

Is this still working on 3.4 ? If so, how does it work please for local pictures? My users upload hi res pics and topic loading time is quiet long without thumbnails.

Thanks,

Reynald

No, we had disabled it for quite some time.
