Offline messages

I recently installed Freichat on my community's website to provide an easy way for our members to communicate with each other. Since the software is not inexpensive, we decided on using the free version for now.
We wanted Freichat to replace our old PM system and while it does a good job at that when both users are online, problems arise when you need to send a message to an offline user and you haven't opened the chat previously. Is there any way to list or search for offline users as well, either through legitimate means or by altering the code? This would make Freichat a whole lot more useful for our purposes.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

This is possible by altering the code .

However, listing all the users in the user list is not a good idea . [Think of thousands of users in such a small div]

But, you can provide a "send message" button in the users profile page . You can then open a chatwindow when user clicks that button.

Javascript:

FreiChat.create_chat_window("user",56)

Above opens a chatwindow to user with username -> "user" and userid -> 56

Necessity is the mother of all inventions!

Thanks, that's actually a great solution!
As someone with little experience with SQL, could you give me some pointers on how to make it work across all profiles (i.e.: how to retrieve the right usernames and userids)?

This would no longer be related to freichat . If you are using any CMS , you should look into its documentation on how to fetch the current user's username and userid .
For most of the CMS , you wont need SQL to fetch these details .

Let us know if you have any problems.
