We are in the process of implementing the permission system.

The current implementation will be as follows:

1. You can add/edit/delete roles
2. You can edit permissions for each role
3. You can assign multiple roles for a user
4. You can edit permissions for each role on category level

We have also added the possibility to edit permissions at the topic level but we won't be providing the GUI for it as of now.

We are looking for scenarios where the permission system will be used.
This will help us build a easy-to-use permission control based on the common use cases.

We have thought of the following.

Make the forum private

All unregistered users will be redirected to the login page and won't have access to the content.

Make a category private

It will be used to allow users only with certain user roles to access a particulat category.
It can be used to create moderator-only or premium-members category.

Looking for more ideas. Your inputs are very much appreciated.

We are using a plugin "RESTRICT CONTENT PRO" in our wordpress site. We do not make all of our post locked for Unregistered User. Rather post is open for view to all, only the crucial part is hidden.

For example- In a job post, we restrict only CONTACT DETAILS with <restrict></restrict> tag. Once the User get registered or Log In, he can view the complete post.

If you can try something like this, it will be superb.
