Codoforum related discussions
Wondering if Codologic can handle certain specific features.

I'm creating a forum related to a particular, but broad topic, and it needs to have the following specific features:

-the ability to follow individual users and have all their posts AND COMMENTS show up in your main feed.

-the ability to upload/download documents as a post that can be commented under like any other post. (It would also be great if it could somehow be displayed in the post, but that's not essential).

-the ability to search for the document posts based on specific keywords. Not a global site search, but searching within the "documents" sub itself.

-the ability to create private subs.

If anyone could tell me if codologic has those features, that would be great. Thanks!

Hi

-the ability to follow individual users and have all their posts AND COMMENTS show up in your main feed.

We have not added this feature yet. Currently it only shows the posts you made yourself.

-the ability to upload/download documents as a post that can be commented under like any other post. (It would also be great if it could somehow be displayed in the post, but that's not essential).

You can just upload the document in a reply. You don't have to type anything in the message.
We don't support threaded replies i.e comments though.

We have plans for it but not added yet.

-the ability to create private subs.

Do you mean private categories? Yes codoforum supports that

@admin

For the features you said you do not have, if someone had the php coding ability, could they work with your code to add those features themselves?

Most forums have the ability to follow an individual account, do you mean you don't have the ability to do this, or don't have the ability to have comments show up in your main feed? Most forums have the ability to follow a user's posts, but not their comments.

So you can't make a post that is just the document? If you can upload a document as a comment it seems it would be simple to be able to do that as a post. Also, do you mean that you don't support threaded replies in general? That seems like a basic function of most forums.

We have plans for it but not added yet.

But you do allow for searching the forum globally right? Why else have the tags if you can't search for them? Do you mean that you have plans for searching within a sub, but haven't added that yet, but you CAN search the forum globally?

Well, I mean...Reddit for instance allows for subreddits. Do you support those? And if you do, do you support private subs?

Thank you for your quick response. For what it's worth, I'm trying to take a telegram community that has several channels, some with 10,000 users from there to a forum based platform. That's what I'm trying to create. Because of the nature of the specific topic of that community, I need the features I mentioned.

Thanks again and I look forward to your response!

If You have someone with good knowledge in PHP then You can archive a lot with Codoforum because writing modules / plugins is not that hard with CF. CF also has a own API with a lot of endpoints. So for a decent PHP developer most of your missing features should be realizable.

You can uload files within a topic or a replay, but you can not give the upload a own name or text. CF`s uploader is using the file name of the uploaded file.

With CF you sadly can not follow other users, I also hope this will become a feature in the near future. But even if you can not follow other friends for now you can use the CF notification settings (right sidebar at every topic) to follow the topic or even get Email or desktop notifications of it.

Because of the desired search function by tags - I think that is or was planned. So this function will probably come at some point, but I don't think it's at the top of the priority list.

What we CF users love about CF is that it doesn't come across as pompous like e.g. a phpBB3, myBB or vBulletin etc. CF is just a small, good and modern looking forum with only all the really important features. The code of CF has been kept up-to-date for over 13 years and has also been modernized and thus receives continuous support that is worth much more to us than the fact that CF has integrated every little feature by default - there are already more than enough other inflated forum hippos for that. smile

CF can have categories and forums within these categories and also subforums. Redits subredits are user generated subforums. Unfortunately, I don't know it by heart anymore, but I think with the right system of Codoforum it should be maybe possible to archive something similar because You can also create your own user groups with different rights in CF. But it is better if @admin will tell you a bit more about this, because I am not 100% sure right now and I don't have my own version of CF running on my server right at the moment because of some server updates so I can't verify it myself right now.

I hope this will help you a bit. As I mentioned if you have someone with good PHP knowledge You can archive a lot with CF.

Kind regards, Andy smile
