Premoderation using upvotes.

Got a maybe a silly idea for some time in the future.

When user posts a new topic, it will go to a section called "New Topics"smile not the index page). So, users can vote on it. If, lets say topic gets "5" upvotes, it will than gets to be displayed in a main page under category person created a topic under. If not, it gets burried without showing up. - Sort of, let users moderate whats gets displayed on site according to their needs.

Hi

Where will this new topics section be?
What do you think about a reverse approach where if a post gets 3 or more downvotes, that post is hidden. I think that's a similar approach to stack overflow.

Necessity is the mother of all inventions!

Im not really familiar on how stockoverflow works. Maybe same concept. Yep, if downvoted than it will just stay thare hidded with name of topic and option to show. And if after certain amount of time passes and its still -10 votes, than deleted.

Maybe section above forum categories. Its just an idea. Gotta see what others think, and so on.

@pupsik

I think it is not possible to delete the topic after 10 down votes because of copyright reasons - all the copyright of writen text are owned by law by its creator - you would make yourself punishable if you just deleted it.

@admin my opinion about it is it should stay at it is. New topics are still be shown at the idex page and that for my opinion come already close to a "new topic section"

Kind regards, Andy smile

Webcrew, thats not exactly how forum works. Be it, spam, harmfull, sexual material, unrelated topics, advertisement. All that is not considered as copyright material.

If im out of town, and no access to internet, i dont want that on front page.

Users will have controll on what material is worth discussion.

There is always a "Optional" settings can be implimented.

This option will bring more people to this community as it will open up different ideas for projects people might have. Maybe there is a people looking for a forum script based on users votes, it can be anything. Boom, codoforum have that option.

I personaly dont see a problem with extra section in admin panel designed for that.

Once again, this is an idea down the future.

Yes, certainly it's a good idea to have it as an optional feature in the backend.
Codoforum already has an option where you can prevent any user from creating new posts if his reputation falls below certain configured threshold. Maybe we can improve on that.

Yep. I mean, person can be downvoted by any reason now days, but maybe that person creates good content.

This is sort of based on topic user created and not user itself. Sorta, dont judge a book by its cover smile

@admin & @pupsik I am not a lawyer, but as I know the legal situation in Europe, other people's intellectual property must not be destroyed, manipulated or re-used as long as the owner does not agree to it or his text violates the law for example spam or hate speech.

It is great to use the voting function more or in a smarter way and more sensibly. I just wanted to point out that this is probably not as easy to integrate as it seems. Especially since the copyright laws in India are different than in Russia and again different than in Europe or America and all of that has to be taken into account.

So simply deleting comments automatically after a few down votes would be legally very questionable. But you could move these down-voted comments into the admin area and then have them legally checked by the admin or moderator.

Or you inform all users about the terms and conditions using this function, then it would also be ok legally, since you give people the opportunity to not register at all if they do not agree.

But that being said, your idea is not bad at all. smile

Kind regards, Andy smile

Yes, thank you for the advice @WebCrew
We do have plans to make this smarter so when we do we will make sure we take all legalities into account.

@admin and @pupsik

I didn't mean to sound like a busybody or someone extra smart smile
The only reason I was so worried was that I myself had had really bad experiences with so - called special lawyers for online law. Back then I had to pay a fine of 900 Euros because I didn't take data protection seriously (I didn't understand the law as a normal person you dont know all that §§crap). I just want you not to fall into the same trap - there are lousy lawyers who make good money by suing such online sites and scripts.

@admin > so when we do we will make sure we take all legalities into account

Sounds good that you will take extra care about that issue.

Kind regards, Andy smile
